🚼Stroller
Reykjavik's compact city centre is mostly flat and well-paved making it stroller-friendly for city exploration. Outside the city on lava fields and natural sites (geysers, waterfalls) a carrier is essential as terrain is extremely uneven. All-terrain strollers work better than lightweight ones in Iceland.
🍽️Food & Eating
Icelandic food is expensive and not particularly toddler-oriented (lots of fresh fish, lamb, and dairy). Supermarkets are the family budget-saver. Most restaurants are family-welcoming but the high prices make eating out two or three times daily unsustainable for most families.
🛡️Safety
Iceland is the safest country in the world according to the Global Peace Index. The natural environment is the main hazard — geothermal areas have extremely hot ground and steam, waterfalls have no safety fences, and coastal waves can be dangerously unpredictable. Children must be kept back from all natural hazard areas.
🏥Hospitals
Landspítali University Hospital in Reykjavik is Iceland's main facility with a paediatric emergency department and English-speaking staff throughout. Iceland's small population means specialist care can require transfer to mainland Europe for complex cases.
