Rome's ancient cobblestones (sampietrini) are beautiful and brutal for strollers — the Colosseum area, Trastevere, and Centro Storico will exhaust your wrists. Wider wheels work better than small ones. A carrier is essential for Palatine Hill and the Vatican's outdoor areas.

🍽️Food & Eating

Italians are famously wonderful with children — you'll be fussed over constantly. Pizza and pasta are universally loved by toddlers, high chairs are standard at trattorias, and gelato resolves any meltdown. Lunch is the main meal; restaurants open from 12:30.

🛡️Safety

Safe for families in tourist areas. Pickpocketing around the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and Vatican is common — use front-facing bags and keep stroller baskets zipped. Traffic is chaotic; use pedestrian crossings only and hold children firmly.

🏥Hospitals

Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù is one of Europe's finest dedicated children's hospitals with English-speaking staff. The private Salvator Mundi International Hospital in Trastevere also offers English-language paediatric consultations.
