🚼Stroller
Lisbon's famous hills and cobblestone streets (calçada portuguesa) are tough going with a stroller — Alfama and Bairro Alto are carrier territory. However, the riverfront (Ribeira), Parque das Nações, and Belém are beautifully flat and stroller-friendly. The metro has lifts at major stations.
🍽️Food & Eating
Portugal is extraordinarily family-friendly — children are welcomed everywhere and eating out with toddlers is genuinely relaxed. Grilled fish, piri piri chicken, and custard tarts (pastéis de nata) are big toddler winners. Most mid-range restaurants have high chairs.
🛡️Safety
One of Western Europe's safest capitals. Very low violent crime. Pickpocketing exists around tourist areas like Alfama and tram 28 — keep valuables secure. The hilly terrain means parents need to be vigilant about stroller runaway on slopes.
🏥Hospitals
Hospital de Dona Estefânia is Lisbon's main paediatric hospital with good emergency capability. The private Hospital CUF Descobertas and Hospital da Luz both have English-speaking staff and are used by expatriate families for non-emergency paediatric care.
